Creating an ad on the cars.com network is fast and easy. Our Ad Creation Tour will show you step-by-step how easy it is to create your ad in only minutes.

Step 1:

Enter ZIP Code

Provide the ZIP code where your vehicle is located.

Step 2:

Select a Package

Select either a Basic, Enhanced or Premium ad package.

Step 3:

Build Your Ad

Provide information about the vehicle you are advertising, including year, make, model, options and features, and provide your contact information.


Enter: Year, Make, Model, Style, Body Style.	Enter: Asking Price, Condition, Transmission, Mileage, Doors, Body Style, Engine, Cylinders, Exterior Color, Interior Color, Drive Train, VIN

Enter & Check: Vehicle features, additional selling points and condition description.	Enter: Contact Name and Telephone Number. E-mail optional.

Step 4:

Select a Photo

Select the type of photo you would like to include with your ad. You may select to use up to 12 of your own photos or include a manufacturer photo from our library.


Upload a Single Photo: Upload a single digital photo of your vehicle.	Upload Multiple Photos: Upload up to 12 digital photos of your vehicle to show your vehicle in more detail to prospective buyers.	Use a Manufacturer Photo: Select a manufacturer photo from our digital library.

Step 5:

Review Your Ad

Review your ad package, vehicle photo(s), vehicle information, contact information and preview your ad.


Check Ad Package: Confirm the package you have selected for your vehicle.	Check Photo(s): Confirm that you've chosen the right photo(s). If you wish to make any changes, you can click the "Modify Photo" button and modify your photo selection.

Check Ad Information: Confirm the information you entered for your vehicle, its features and your additional selling points & condition description. You can also confirm the contact information provided.	Preview Your Ad: Click the "Preview Ad" button to see what your ad will look like. View Sample Ad

Step 6:

Registration / Login

New users will be asked to create a Sell It Yourself account. Current users can enter their login information


First-Time User Registration: New users to Sell It Yourself will need to create a user account by entering their first & last name, address, city, state, ZIP code, seller type, e-mail address and password.	Returning Users: Returning users can enter their e-mail address and password.

Step 7:

Check Out

Review your purchase summary and provide your payment information.


Review Purchase Summary: Review your purchase summary and the price of your ad. If you have a promotion code, you can enter it at this time.	Payment Information: Once you enter your payment information, you will be able to purchase your ad. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.	Purchase Ad: When you are ready, you can purchase your ad. You may also review the Terms & Conditions and the Refund Policy before making your purchase.

Once you have purchased your ad, you can return at any time to update your ad information, upload new photos or delete your ad once your vehicle has sold.


Ad Overview: Each ad will be listed in your My Ads page with the Ad ID, ad status, ad package, purchase date and next renewal date, if applicable. In addition, you will have access to free selling tools including Fliers, Window Signs and a Bill of Sales.	Manage Your Ad: Make changes to your ad, renew it (if applicable) and delete your ad when you are finished. You can also view your ad live on the cars.com site.
